SUMMARY:How to Develop a Burn Plan
DESCRIPTION:Prescribed fire is exciting, but long before the test fire is lit, a solid burn plan must be in place. The core elements as outlined by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) help ensure success on a prescribed burn. What are your goals and objectives? How would you describe the burn area and fuels? How complex will the burn be? Do you have the resources needed to conduct a safe burn? What is the preferred fire behavior?\nIn this webinar, Jon Bailey of The Nature Conservancy’s Maine chapter and Chris O’Brien from the White Mountain National Forest will walk us through the elements needed to develop a successful burn plan. They will share examples of how burn plans are developed in their own organizations, and how the results on the ground inform future management decisions.
